- —. Used as a shorthand to avoid writing the name of authors multiple times. To see which author(s) a source using this abbreviation belongs to, simply see which author(s) it falls under.
- et. al. When a work has multiple contributors or many authors, usually only a single name (or two) is used in addition to the abbreviation “et. al.” This simply means “and others.”
- ed./eds. Indicates that the author(s) listed are editor(s) of the work listed.
- Ibid. This is used in footnotes rather than in the bibliography. When this abbreviation is used in a footnote, it means that the cited source material is the same as the one listed above.
